Cherry Insurance website walkthrough

The Cherry Insurance website, rebuilt by ATTRACT.

"We have used Ryan for all our marketing since 2013, and we receive compliments constantly. In fact, Aviva Canada told me personally that they use Cherry Insurance as an example of excellent marketing in the insurance industry. I would recommend Ryan and ATTRACT Media any day."

Robyn Cherry

Owner, Cherry Insurance

THE COMPANY

A local insurance brokerage in a city of three hundred thousand.

Cherry Insurance is an independent insurance brokerage in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. Family-led. Multi-generational. Quietly excellent at what they do. The kind of operator who shows up to community events, sponsors the rink, and answers their phone on Saturday morning.

Saskatoon is a city of three hundred thousand people. There are more than a dozen brokerages competing for the same homes, vehicles, and small businesses. The category is commoditized. Premiums are regulated. Policies are functionally identical. The only real lever any brokerage has is whether the city thinks of them first.

When Cherry came to us in 2013, that was the brief. Not "more quotes." Not "a better website." The brief was unspoken but unmistakable: become the brokerage Saskatoon thinks of first.

2013, 2018

The first six years were the foundation.

The Cutest Pet Contest you see today, the half-million visits, the citywide buzz, the Aviva citation, did not exist in 2013. What existed was a brokerage and a creative partnership willing to play the long game.

We spent the first six years building a brand voice that Saskatoon would actually pay attention to. Cinematic video pieces. Stunts. The kind of work most insurance brokerages consider too risky, too creative, or too slow to pay back. The Insure Your Pride film, a rainbow-soaked, unapologetic stand during a moment when most local brands were silent, was part of that foundation. It taught the city that Cherry was not a normal insurance company.

None of those early pieces broke the internet. They didn't have to. They were the soil. By 2018, the city already associated Cherry with creative courage. That association is what made everything that came next possible.

THE STRATEGIC BREAKTHROUGH

The origin: a personal moment, an ethical problem, and an obvious answer.

The contest came out of a single conversation. We were sitting with the Cherry team trying to answer a harder version of the usual question: not "how do we get more leads," but "how do we give the city a reason to talk about us every single year without feeling like marketing."

I had just lost my dog Hudson. He was thirteen, and the kind of animal you do not really replace, you just carry. The grief was honest and recent. And in the middle of trying to think about insurance, what I kept landing on was how completely people loved their pets. Not casually. Religiously.

The ethical problem was obvious: insurance is a category that sells fear. Most brokerage marketing is some flavour of "what if something terrible happens to the thing you love." We did not want to do that. We wanted to celebrate the thing people loved instead.

The answer landed in a sentence: a citywide cutest pet contest, hosted by Cherry, free to enter, judged by the city itself. Not a lead-gen funnel. Not a giveaway dressed up as a contest. A genuine annual moment that Saskatoon could own with us.

That insight became the first Signature Annual Campaign we ever built. Every campaign we have shipped since has been measured against the bar this one set.

WHAT WE BUILT

A real campaign, not a social media post.

The Cutest Pet Contest is a system, not a stunt. Six components, built and rebuilt every year, designed to compound rather than spike.

01

An annual microsite

Built fresh each year on cherryinsurance.ca. Optimized for entries, voting, sharing. Built to handle the July traffic spike without breaking.

02

A cinematic video library

Years of award-quality video work that lives on the Cherry YouTube channel. Not contest explainers, proper short films that earn the city's attention long before the contest opens.

03

Award-winning creative

The 2015 work earned the Summit Creative Award Gold, the only Saskatchewan insurance work to ever do so. That was not the goal. It was the byproduct of taking the brief seriously.

★ Summit Creative Award Gold · 2015

04

Social and PR orchestration

Coordinated launches across Cherry's owned channels, partner channels, and local press. The campaign is a moment, not a post.

05

Pre-launch buildup

Six months of strategy, production, and tease before July. By the time the contest opens, the city is already waiting for it.

06

A community ritual

Voting, finalists, and reveal moments engineered so Saskatoon's pet owners, and their friends, families, neighbours, coworkers, all participate. Cherry hosts the conversation. The city has it.

Other films in the library include WHAT COULD GO WRONG and the 2017 animated Boat Launch spot, a piece worth its own section.

ONE FOR THE RECORDS

The Cherry boat ad came out ten months before Family Guy ran the same premise.

In July 2017 we shipped an animated Cherry spot built around a very specific gag, a chaotic boat launch that escalates into slapstick disaster. It was a small piece. We posted it, Saskatoon laughed, and we moved on.

Ten months later, in May 2018, Family Guy aired an episode with a near-identical premise: the same boat launch, the same escalating disaster, the same comic beats. The dates are not ambiguous, both videos are public, both are timestamped, and anyone can verify it.

We are not claiming a writers' room watched our work. The point is simpler and more useful: when the creative thinking is good enough, a small Saskatoon insurance campaign and one of the longest-running comedy shows in television history arrive at the same idea, and the small Saskatoon campaign gets there first. That is the standard we hold the work to.

WHY IT KEEPS WORKING

The math of compounding cultural attention.

Most marketing is rented attention. You pay, the ad runs, the attention disappears the moment the budget stops. The Cutest Pet Contest does the opposite. Every year of execution adds to the asset rather than starting from zero.

Year one in 2019 was the smallest year on record. Year two outperformed it. Year three doubled. By 2024 the campaign was pulling half a million visits in thirty days because the city already knew it was coming, already cared who won, and already planned to enter their dog.

Aviva Canada, one of the largest insurers in the country - cited the Cutest Pet Contest in their internal broker marketing materials as a model for what independent brokerages can build. That citation is not something any agency can buy. It is the receipt for seven years of taking the long view.

That is the model. Pick a category that matches your audience. Build a campaign worth their attention. Run it every year without breaking the rhythm. Refuse the urge to over-rotate or bail when year one underperforms. Let it compound.

IN HER WORDS

What Robyn says about it.

"Working with Ryan YETI changed what marketing means for our brokerage. The Cutest Pet Contest is not a campaign anymore - it is a part of Saskatoon's summer. People stop us about it in the grocery store. Aviva Canada has cited our work as a model for what an independent broker can build. Thirteen years in, we are still building it together."

WHAT THIS MEANS FOR YOU

This is not a one-off. It is a model.

Insurance and pets is not the magic. The model is the magic. The same architecture works for any operator who needs to own a category in a specific city.

We deploy the same playbook through our Regina Web Designer and Calgary Web Designer frameworks, and through our Edmonton Web Designer and Winnipeg Web Designer networks. Each market gets one operator per industry. The Cherry result in Saskatoon is the proof of what compounds when a regional brand commits to the model.

A law firm that runs an annual scholarship campaign for first-generation students. A dental practice that owns the city's back-to-school smile drive. A mortgage broker with a first-time-buyer initiative the local press cannot ignore. An auto dealer whose annual community ride is the unofficial start of summer.

In every case the structure is the same: a Signature Annual Campaign that the city would miss if it disappeared. Built exclusive to one operator per industry per market. Run year after year until the brand and the moment become inseparable.

The Cherry Cutest Pet Contest is the proof that the model works. It is not the only thing that does.

THE FOUNDATION

The Foundation: 13 years of SEO domination.

The Cutest Pet Contest works because Cherry Insurance has spent 13 years building the strongest local insurance SEO presence in Saskatchewan. When people search for insurance in Saskatoon, Google shows them Cherry first. That is not luck. That is the ATTRACT Media SEO system running for over a decade.

In April 2021, systematic SEO tracking showed Cherry Insurance ranking for 12 keywords with 1 in the top 3. By June 2026, that expanded to 60 tracked keywords with 51 in the top 3. This is what compounding SEO looks like over five years of consistent work.

With Cherry Insurance's new website now live, we are seeing early AI search visibility including Google AI Overview citations. ChatGPT, Perplexity, and Claude are increasingly where insurance shoppers start their research. Cherry Insurance is positioned to be the answer AI models give.

This is what happens when you commit to real SEO work over years, not months.

QUESTIONS, ANSWERED

Cherry case study, common questions.

Signature Annual Campaigns are premium six-figure investments. The exact number depends on your industry, your city, your competitive landscape, and the scope of creative production. Pricing is built during the strategy call once we understand what the campaign needs to accomplish.

Six months of preparation before launch. Strategy and creative concept development happens in months one and two. Production happens in months three and four. Pre-launch buildup happens in month five. The campaign goes live in month six and runs through its target window.

No two campaigns produce identical results. The Cherry Cutest Pet Contest works at the scale it does because of seven years of compounding plus the specific match between insurance and pets in a 300,000-person market. Your campaign will be built specifically for your industry, your city, and your competitive position. Results compound over years, not months.

We work across insurance, law, dental, mortgage, real estate, auto dealerships, mining, First Nations enterprises, colleges, construction, architecture, and medical aesthetics. The Signature Campaign model works in any industry where local market dominance matters.

Real marketing creates real advantage. If we built the Cherry Cutest Pet Contest for one insurance brokerage in Saskatoon and then sold the same playbook to the brokerage across the street, neither would win. Exclusivity is what guarantees the campaign produces market position, not just activity.

Year one is foundation. The Cherry Cutest Pet Contest in 2019 did not pull 500,000 visits. It pulled significantly fewer. The compounding starts in year two and accelerates from there. Signature Campaigns are designed as multi-year commitments. If you're looking for short-term results from a single push, this isn't the right offer.

Yes. Cherry Insurance has been a client since 2013. The relationship started at STEALTH (my previous agency, sold in 2018) and continued at ATTRACT from 2020 onward without interruption.

The Cherry Insurance Cutest Pet Contest microsite goes live every July at cherryinsurance.ca. The full video library is on the Cherry YouTube channel, including the award-winning Insure Your Pride video, the Land of the Living Skies music video, and the 2017 Boat Launch animation.
